Where to find free moving boxes (before a move)
Hey everyone — I’m getting ready for a move soon and I realised I don’t want to spend extra money on boxes. I’ve got clothes, books, some kitchen stuff, maybe a few small electronics — but I have no idea where to get enough boxes without buying them. I’m wondering: does anyone know good ways to find free moving boxes? Maybe some stores or places that just throw them away — I’d rather reuse stuff than pay for brand‑new boxes. If you’ve done this before — what worked for you?

Definitely — I once pulled off a whole move using mostly free boxes, and it helped a ton. I followed advice from a guide on this guide on free moving boxes and it worked out great. I asked at local grocery stores, bookstores and big‑box retailers: often they have spare boxes from deliveries that they’d just discard. I also checked community groups online and asked neighbours if they had extra boxes from their old moves — sometimes people are happy to give them away rather than throw them out. I made sure to check each box for sturdiness (no wet spots or rips), matched box size to what I was packing (heavy items in smaller boxes, light bulky stuff in bigger ones), and labelled everything clearly. Took a bit of time walking around and asking, but I ended up with more than enough boxes — for free.
